An Aboriginal leader had died on the day of arrival at Ayres rock, So the Tribe leaders had decided to close the walk up to the top.
That old moral dilemma of whether to climb the rock or not didn't even come into question - what a relief!
Forty pople have died from climbing the 346 metres up Ayres Rock over the years.
