This is a picture of one the gates to the old City Centre in Bolougne-sur-mer, [the city is split into the old and new sections]. ok ok it's meant to be spelt Boulogne-sur-Mer, however I seem to get loads of traffic for this spelling :)

Bolougne is a smallish city (Population of 45,000) in Northern France, some 200 miles from Paris and roughly 20 miles West of Calais.

If you've got an overnight stay and have to catch the ferry the next day from Calais - it's well worth getting the hell out of Calais and stopping here instead.

It has some other nice things to look at:
There's the 19th-century cathedral which sits above the longest crypt in France, the the French National Sea Experience Centre, which opened in 1991 and is apparently much more than a mere aquarium.
Boulogne, being by the sea also has some mint seafood restaurants.

Unfortunately I have no photos of the above, only this one here, as when I went travelling, I was only 17, I only had a film camera with just 3 rolls of film, to last the summer, and I was trying to survive on £10 a day for food and accommodation! - couldn't get all trigger happy with the camera, was saving it for bigger things like me by a fountain! :)
