Ranakpur is located between Jodhpur and Udaipur in the Rajasthan countryside, In the middle of nowhere!! - It's a nice break from the endless supply of people everywhere you go in India. There were only about 50/60 people there when I went, brilliant.
I managed to get a Tuk-Tuk driver for the day to drive me down, for around 1000 Rupees from Udaipur an absolute brilliant fella. - It's pretty much the only way there instead of doing an organised tour, and there was no way I was gonna cycle!
What was nice about the fella was he took the time to drive me around the countryside, got to visit a few of his mates, have a few samosa's and cups of Tea with them. I also managed to ask him the usual tourist questions and find out some local history, as his English was bob on, all in all it was a good day out, He also did me a quality deal on a massive bag of weed.
The approach to Ranakpur was something else! I saw below me in the distance surrounded by trees with monkeys legging it out into the road on a nice clear day! - Amazing
The Boring Stuff.
The Dating of Ranakpur is open to questions but it's generally dated between the late 14th to mid-15th centuries. There's a couple of temples there, It's manly known for is marble Jain temple and for a much old Sun Temple which lies opposite. There are over 1400 marble pillars, carved in amazing detail, that support the Jain temple, with trees growing out from inside – An absolutely amazing place to visit!.
