  • Prambanan is the largest Hindu temple to be found in Indonesia, and is currently a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It's only 18 km from Yogyakarta. Dead easy to get out to as well, there are loads of buses going from the main terminal.
Also at the terminal you'll find guys with motor bikes who you can bum a lift off to take you out there, for a bit more that than the bus obviously, but the don't mess around! - We almost came off twice, was a quality ride!

It was built around 850 CE during the Sanjaya dynasty. Where once it was finished was left abandoned and began to deteriorate.

A face lift was started in 1918 and the main building was finished in around 1953, it took so long because it is next to impossible to find the original stonework, which was often stolen and reused at other construction sites in the middle of nowhere.

There are 224 temples altogether; the main three temples are Brahma Temple, Vishnu Temple and Shiva Temple. Shiva temple sits in between Brahma and Vishnu standing some 47 metres high.
